Short Info:
With “Melodrama Suits Her – A Revenge Evening”, choreographer and dancer Tümay Kılınçel, together with two dancers and three musicians, brings a dance performance against the “male gaze”, the male, sexualizing view, to the stage. She turns against the still common cinematic representation of women as weak, defenceless, hysterical and melodramatic. Is there really a need for a hero to save them? The dance performance works on stereotypical images of women that have manifested themselves through prevailing power structures and looks for ways to break with them on the screen, on stage and in life itself. The research is based on the Yeşilçam films of the Turkish mainstream, Mexican telenovelas and popular German movies as well as Hollywood classics.
